COVID-19: The importance of children wearing face masks.

English follows Japanese.

Today, I will be discussing about the research conducted by University of Parma in Italy.
Esposito, S. and Principi, N., 2020. To mask or not to mask children to overcome COVID-19. European Journal of Pediatrics, 179(8), pp.1267-1270.
Recently, I see groups of kids talking and playing in the Park without face masks in Japan. Do you know the risk of children getting COVID-19? There is a illness called Kawasaki Disease, which has a symptom of heart and children with heavy symptoms of COVID-19 get the similar after-effect as Kawasaki Disease.
University of Parma has revealed that 50% ~ 75% of adult COVID-19 patients are asymptomatic. Children are also equally easily get infected by COVID-19 as adults do.
However, the real problem is that only 28% of the children aged between 0 ~ 16yrs old are asymptomatic, and other 72% will show the symptoms. Out of those 72%, half of them will get the severe COVID-19 symptoms. We also know that younger children are more susceptible to getting COVID-19, and are more likely to get severe symptoms.
I understand that parents do have hard time making their children wear face masks, but I would like to emphasise the importance of face masks. I really hope the common "children will not get COVID-19" thoughts will disappear very soon, and everyone gets more educated about current situations.
